How To Build A Rain Barrel & The Water Hog System (5 Stars!)
Right on.
I think, by far, the Water Hog kicks weather ass.
There is always water issue out here in Arizona, and one of the nearby swimming pools was on the verge of closing over the summer, never to reopen, because of the water situation here. It does rain though, rains like a bitch, and with the snow and runoff…this is a practical system that could do a lot for the desert areas.
Worth looking into. This is the first I’ve ever seen of this sort of system. Wonder what the marketing option would be for this region, working with the city or other locations to get these installed across the state. Theoretically, the system should not be that expensive given it’s primarily PVC and plastic with basic connector hardware.
Hmmm….ideas run amok. Again.
Flashback: DIY Snack
May as well since I’m still in this mode. No clue what this is called but my mom sent me this recipe she found and after I modded it to remove the gross stuff I’ll never actually eat, I was left with this really yummy and very filling quick snack. And I found a whole new style of salad that tastes delish right out of the bowl.
(I’m also doing this as a little torture for Bill over there ;-p )
I <3 Homemade Salsa
Especially mine.
But something I’ve wanted to do since before we came back here, but still haven’t, is start an indoor salsa/vegetable garden. Love some of these DIY vids on setting these up. The Aero Garden is kick ass though. I may still get one before June….
Actually, scratch that. Apparently I can DIM and make one of these for 20 bucks…or less.
“grab your seed and stick it in that pre-made hole”
A little truthism about yours truly. Sometimes, when I get in a funk, I stop going to the grocery store. Don’t feel like cooking, don’t feel like being creative, have no real natural food appetite, so will usually throw it into fast food or restaurant offerings til I snap out of it. One of the easiest ways to snap me out of that mode is, curiously, the whole idea of a salsa garden. I LOVE fresh salsa. I love making it. I don’t have any particularly unique recipe for it – just chop up tomatoes, multi bell peppers, a half a dozen hot peppers of various tastes (jalapenos, habanero, cayenne etc), banana peppers, onions, lemon, lime, a bit of garlic and chop the shit out of it til it’s salsa like.
But seeing the vids (which I do still have to make myself actually go do) reacquaints me with the Pioneer Chick within who went away down Fast Food Alley and I can almost taste the fresh veggies coming right off the vine.
One of the few things I miss about Crossroads (La.) is my mom bringing in fresh peppers and tomatoes off the vine and chilling them for dinner later. Course, she also grew squash, eggplant, and other hideous shit I won’t dare have in my mouth but still…there is an enormous transition between both states of mind, and personally, though I get caught up in the suburban mentality more than I should, I love morphing back to my natural self. One of these days here in the next half dozen months, I’ll morph back for good.
